The Need
With children's sunday school classes growing, a houston based church
needed a system to better track who was in which sunday school class.
Based upon the latest numbers, over 900 were entered into the system.
How it Works
At the welcome desk, a person is stationed in front of a computer with the
web-based system online and a bar-code scanner.
The Process
- A picture is taken of the family (First time only)
- Family information entered in the system by worker (First time only)
- A laminated bar-coded ID tag given to them for use for every sunday
- When child is dropped off, the card is scanned to automatically check in
the child to their specified class.
- When child is picked up, the card would be shown to the person in
charge. If the id picture and info matches the system, they log out and
pick up their child.
Behind the Scenes
The system differentiates between the login type of administrator (with
full functional access) or a staff member (with limited functional
access). Additionally, the system would allow for the following:
- Setup staff members
- Manage children, parents, grandparents and legal guardians
- Setup rooms to be used as sunday school classes, and the teachers who
are head of the class room
- Assign children to classes
- View children enrolled in a certain class
- Easily locate contact, allergy, emergency and other information
- Setup "links" between guardian and child to display what adult is
allowed to pick up what child
Web Based Advantage
This was a custom system built for the church. The beauty of having the
system fully web based, is that the church was not limited to running the
system on one computer, nor did they need to purchase an expensive server
to house it on. It was completely web based, with no need to install any
software. Any computer could access the system, at any time, as long as
they had a computer. It could even be accessed ANYWHERE from the web -
even off site!
